Kawai CE220 35” Digital Upright Piano

The Finest Tone, Touch and Value

Featuring Kawai's famous wooden-key action, the CE220 digital piano offers the finest touch available in a digital piano. With 88-key piano sampling, plus a rugged, yet beautiful cabinet, the CE220 is a great choice in a high-quality digital piano.

Tone

The CE220 utilizes Kawai’s acclaimed Progressive Harmonic Imaging™ Sound Technology to create a very realistic, impressive piano sound. 88-key piano sampling preserves the individual tonal character of each note.

Kawai’s Progressive Harmonic Imaging (PHI) with 88-key sampling uses a larger tonal “database” than regular Harmonic Imaging to provide greater tonal details throughout the dynamic range.

Touch

The CE220 offers the finest touch available thanks to the AWA PROII wooden-key, graded-hammer action with counterbalancing.

Kawai AWA PROII Digital Piano Action

The AWA PROII action features extra-long wooden keys and a mechanical design similar to that found in Kawai’s acoustic grand pianos. The extended length of the wooden key allows for a pivot point in the middle of the key. This creates movement on both ends of the keys and pushes the hammers in an upward motion from the back of the key (same as in a grand piano action).

The hammer weights are graded in the same fashion as that of the AHA IV actions. Additionally, the bass keys have a counterbalancing weight placed underneath the front of the key. This creates a more even static key weight, which is the goal of counterbalancing the actions of fine acoustic grand pianos. The result of all these efforts is a digital piano action that is simply the finest digital piano action available, and one that has received numerous accolades and awards.

Keyboard Modes

The CE220 has both a Dual Mode, in which two sounds are played at the same time, and a Split mode, in which one sound plays on the left side of the keyboard and another sound plays on the right side. A special 4-Hands Mode creates two identical 44-note pianos on the keyboard – great for piano lessons or for duets.

Balance Slider

A convenient Balance Slider on the panel controls the volume balance in a Dual or Split keyboard mode.

USB to Device

You can save song files to a USB memory stick for transfer to a computer. From there, they can be emailed, edited or scored using appropriate software.

Superior Polyphony

Best-in-class 192 note max. polyphony lets you to play complex musical passages or layer sounds together without the annoying note drop-out that can occur at lower polyphony levels.

Headphone Jacks

Two headphone jacks allow two persons to listen to the piano in privacy.

Sliding Key Cover

A built-in sliding key covers protects the keyboard from dust and debris when the instrument is not in use.

Pedals

The CE220 offers three pedals – soft, sostenuto, and damper (with half-damper capability) – just like our grand pianos.

Metronome

The handy built-in digital metronome comes with a variety of time signatures and is a perfect practice partner. You can adjust both the tempo and the volume of the metronome.

Drum Rhythms

The metronome also features 100 built-in drum rhythms in a variety of musical styles. Tempo and volume of the drum beats can also be controlled.

Piano Music

29 Classical Piano Songs are store in the CE220’s internal memory.  An accompanying music book is also provided.

Recorder

The CE220 offers an easy to use 2-Track / 3-Song recorder, perfect for self-evaluation of your keyboard performances or for capturing a moment of inspiration.

Jacks

Both the MIDI jacks and a second USB jack are useful for connecting with other musical instruments and computers. Line In jacks allow an external audio device, such as an MP3 player, to be heard through the instrument’s speaker system. Line Out jacks let you play through an external sound system or to make a digital audio recording with an external recorder or computer.

Kawai CE220 Digital Upright Piano

Touch. Tone. Strength. Character. Precision. Experience.
Tradition and Innovative Spirit. The essence of CE220 Kawai

The celebrated tradition and technology that supports the sounds and remarkable distinctive tonal character produced by the CE220 Kawai are created by the craftsmen who dedicate their lives to building the world’s finest and most advanced pianos empowered with life, breadth and depth that lasts for generations.

Every single step, each intricately detailed design, is performed by our craftsmen drawing upon their years of experience to achieve their relentless pursuit of perfection. It’s this good, old-fashioned care and great individual pride that enables Kawai pianos to attract the greatest musicians from around the world.

For over 90 years, Kawai has been the architect of the modern piano boldly pioneering the use of state-of-the-art materials and ideas to advance the piano art form. Building upon decades of experience and tradition, our celebrated technology delivers extraordinary touch and tone that produces lasting enjoyment and peak performance.

Purity of Tone that Fills the Room... The Kawai - EX Concert Grand Piano is widely regarded by professional pianists and piano technicians as one of the finest instruments in the world. Hand-built over many months by Master Piano Artisans at the Shigeru Kawai Piano Research Laboratory in Ryuyo, Japan, each EX Concert Grand undergoes a through regulation and refinement process in a specially-designed anechoic chamber. Following this lengthy crafting process, the completed EX Piano receives a final series of rigorous quality inspections before eventually taking center stage in the world’s most prestigious musical institutions and concert halls.

88-Key Piano Sampling - The beautiful sound of the Kawai EX Concert Grand Piano is at the heart of the CE Digital Series Sound, with all 88 keys of this world-class instrument painstakingly recorded, carefully analyzed and accurately reproduced as high-fidelity digital audio. Recording each key individually in this way (rather than stretching the same tone over several different notes) preserves the rich harmonic character of the EX Concert Grand Piano and guarantees that the sound heard when playing any of the keys is a faithful representation of the original acoustic source.

Touch Texture. Responsive Fast Action.
Beautiful Quality of ‘Singing Strings’. Brilliant Rich Harmonics and Depth.

Playing the piano is as much an experience of "touch" as it is of tone. Day after day, the musician's hands come in contact with the piano keys. The piano's responsiveness can make a critical difference that can affect the player's performance, confidence and overall playing enjoyment. Consistent, ultra-responsive touch is a Kawai tradition.

The extraordinary combination of strength and stability allows the CE220 piano action to transfer energy with unparalleled efficiency, power, precision and nuance for a superb playing experience, for increased tone production that will last over time better than any other piano.

A Rare Treasure… A limited number of all Kawai instruments will ever bear the name CE220. The rigorous degree of work and technology keeps these instruments rare in both character and quantity. Each CE220 piano is a limited edition treasure numbered by year of creation.
