It combines modeling technology that creates sound of multichannel piano sound that realizes the sound spreading smoothly according to the strength of touch and sound unique to the grand piano, and complicated rich sound peculiar to the piano by computational simulation "SK -EX rendering sound source ", it reproduces the comfort of the performance obtained by the grand piano and the excellent sound response to the touch.

Three Kinds of Grand Piano Sounds Enjoying the Highest Peak Sound Luxuriously

The concert grand piano "SK-EX", the concert grand piano "EX" used at the Chopin International Piano Competition, and the piano sound of the medium-sized grand piano "SK-5" with a high pianist rating are also built in. You can enjoy the pleasure of selecting one to play from the highest peak piano according to the song to play and according to the direction of expression.

Earning a reputation as the ‘premier pianos of Japan’, Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and musical institutions throughout the world, and are prized for their outstanding tonal clarity and exceptional dynamic range.

The new Concert Artist models capture the magnificent tone of two Shigeru Kawai instruments, the flagship SK-EX Concert and medium-sized SK-5 Studio grand pianos, allowing musicians to enjoy the contrasting properties of each.

In addition, the CA98 also features the distinctive sound of Kawai’s highly acclaimed EX concert grand piano, which has frequently been selected by professional pianists in such prestigious events as the Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Rubinstein international piano competitions, among others.

All three instruments are faithfully reproduced with full 88-key sampling using the latest Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology, to establish a new standard in digital piano tonal quality.
KAWAI Full 88-key stereo piano sampling
The rich sound of the SK-EX, SK-5, and EX grand pianos is at the heart of the CA98, with all eighty-eight keys of these world-class instruments painstakingly recorded, meticulously analyzed, and accurately reproduced as high-fidelity digital waveforms.

Recording each key individually in this way – as opposed to stretching the same tone over several different notes – preserves the grand pianos’ unique harmonic character, and guarantees that the sound heard when playing any one of the CA98’s wooden keys is a faithful representation of the original acoustic source.
KAWAI Harmonic Imaging technology
When playing a fine piano, the amount of pressure applied to the keyboard affects not only the volume of the sound produced, but also the unique tonal character of each note.  Therefore, in order to construct a realistic acoustic portrait of each grand piano, not only is each key recorded individually, but also at a wide variety of different volumes, ranging from gentle pianissimo to thunderous fortissimo.

The CA98 offers a highly detailed acoustic portrait, with Harmonic Imaging XL technology ensuring smooth tonal transitions across the keyboard and throughout the entire dynamic range.
KAWAI Extra Long sampling (HI-XL)
Taking full advantage of its expanded sample memory, the CA98’s Harmonic Imaging XL standard extends the important attack portion of the piano sound by up to 120%, articulating the natural detail and resonance characteristics of each note more clearly, and improving the instrument’s organic tonal quality.

KAWAI Personalized piano adjustments
The knowledge and skill of an experienced piano technician is essential to bring out the best of a fine acoustic piano. In addition to tuning each note, the technician also performs numerous regulation and voicing adjustments that allow the instrument to truly sing.

The CA98’s powerful Virtual Technician function simulates these refinements digitally, allowing discerning musicians to shape aspects of the selected piano’s character to suit their personal preferences.

Perform touch weight and voicing adjustments, regulate hammer and key release noises, and fine-tune string, damper, and cabinet resonances.  It is even possible to adjust the precise tuning, volume, and character of individual notes – all in real-time.

Premium Audio Hardware, Powered by Onkyo
Developed in collaboration with Onkyo, one of Japan’s leading premium audio equipment manufacturers, the CA98/CA78 digital pianos are the first musical instruments to utilize specialist components designed for high-end audio reproduction.

With  cutting-edge state-of-the-art technologies such as 1-bit  processing, dual DAC signal conversion, and Onkyo’s exclusive DIRDC filtering, the CA98/CA78’s optimized power amplifiers reproduce the Shigeru Kawai grand piano sound with stunning clarity, richness, and power, while the high-performance Discrete Spectra Module headphone amplifier ensures the finest quality listening experience, even when playing in privacy
Premium Onkyo Speaker System Featuring TwinDrive Soundboard
The powerful sound of the acoustic piano is born by sounding the vibration of the string on the sound board. To be more naturally enveloped, the CA98 is equipped with a sound board speaker to reproduce this sound. With the newly developed TWIN DRIVE system which makes two vibrators causing vibration, it realizes the sound which is wrapped from bass to treble.

3rd generation TwinDrive Soundboard Speaker system featuring Onkyo transducers (CA98 only)

As the flagship model, the CA98 features a considerably improved speaker system that pairs premium Onkyo driver units with Kawai’s newly developed TwinDrive soundboard.  This unique acoustic projection technology harnesses the latest Onkyo transducer components to channel sound energy onto a real wooden soundboard, resulting in a richer, more natural piano tone that immerses the performer.
KAWAI Kawai Soundboard Speaker System
The Kawai Digital CA98 features a high fidelity 6-way speaker system that has been specially designed to deliver deep bass and crisp treble frequencies, while also incorporating the latest version of Kawai’s highly-regarded Soundboard Speaker System.

7 cm x 4 (top speakers)
1.4 cm x 2 (dome tweeters)
Output Power: 135 W (45 W x 3)

This unique audio technology embraces the rich, harmonic qualities of wood, channeling sound energy onto a traditional soundboard in order to produce a natural, organic tone. Long wooden ribs securely attached to the soundboard further broaden the frequency range and volume of the resonating sound, resulting in a remarkably authentic playing experience that immerses the performer, and faithfully reproduces the tonal ambience of an acoustic piano.
KAWAI Equipped With A Grand Feel Pedal System
Pedal operation to give subtle changes and expressions to the performance sound. Analysis of the weight of depression of the grand piano in all three pedals realizes the same sense of operation. It is also possible to adjust the point at which the damper pedal starts to work
