KAWAI GL TONE

KAWAI GL GRAND PIANOS ARE RENOWNED FOR THEIR EXPRESSIVE TONE AND EXPANSIVE DYNAMIC RANGE THAT ALLOW PIANISTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH EASE AND PASSION.
KAWAI SOUNDBOARDS EXCEED DEMANDING RESONANCE STANDARDS
The soundboard is the heart of a piano's tone. Kawai uses only straight-grained, quarter-sawn solid spruce for GL Series soundboards. Each one is strategically tapered to provide the proper degree of resonant movement in each region. Only soundboards that exceed our demanding resonance standards are selected for use in the GL Series grand pianos.

PREMIUM HAMMERS - MAPLE HAMMERS LEAVE MORE ENERGY AND TONE IN THE STRINGS
GL Series hammers are constructed with maple mouldings, premium wool felt, and a layer of dense underfelt all working in harmony to produce the rich, expressive tone that is a hallmark of Kawai grand pianos. Maple hammers are lightweight and extremely responsive. Lighter weight lets them release faster after striking, which leaves more energy and tone in the strings. Found only on the finest grand pianos, maple is used for the hammer mouldings on the entire line of GL Series grand pianos.
MAXIMUM STRENGTH AND OPTIMAL TRANSFER OF SOUND ENERGY

The bridge performs the vital task of transferring the vibrations of the strings to the soundboard. GL bass and treble bridges are made of the highest quality hard maple or beech for maximum strength and optimal transfer of sound energy. GL Series bridges are carefully set and matched to the iron plate for correct string pressure and optimal tonal transfer between bass and treble registers.

BEAUTIFUL SINGING QUALITY OF THE GL SERIES GRAND PIANOS
Dual Duplex Scaling is an important design element that helps to make possible the beautiful singing quality of the GL Series grand pianos. Duplex Scaling allows the extreme ends of the piano’s strings to vibrate and produce harmonics that enhance tone. Dual Duplex design combines a front duplex region (between the tuning pins and agraffes) with a similar rear duplex region (between the aliquots and the bridge) to add a double measure of harmonic richness, brilliance, complexity and sustain to the piano’s tone. (Not on GL-10)
THE CORE SYSTEM MAXIMIZES OUTSTANDING TONAL POWER
CORE is an acronym that stands for "Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy." Convergence refers to the way the piano's strength centers – the rim, plate and underside beams – all focus on one central point at the heart of the instrument. This focus creates an incredibly strong "core" foundation that maximizes the reflective capabilities of the inner rim for outstanding tonal power and sustain. (GL40 and GL50 Only)
EXPRESSIVE TONE AND EXPANSIVE DYNAMIC RANGE
Kawai grand pianos are renowned for their expressive tone and expansive dynamic range that allow pianists to communicate with ease and passion. Tradition and technology are indispensable elements of piano tone. Tradition lays the foundation for our distinctive tonal character, technology empowers it with life, breadth, and depth that lasts from generation to generation.
