Kawai Tuning Pins with Tremendous “Reverse-grip” String Holding Power
The K Series Professional Upright tuning pins are manufactured to rigid specifications, with a precision machine-thread-cutting process, that produces a tuning pin with tremendous “reverse-grip” holding power and are made from the finest steel for maximum bi-directional torque.

The Kawai beauty enhanced nickel-plated tuning pins are created utilizing the highest quality standards to ensure optimum tuning stability over many years of use. The tuning pins are then placed into a North American hard rock maple, multi-laminated and multi-grip pinblock for maximum strength and consistent torque, to assure that the tuning pins remain tightly fitted through a lifetime of music-making.
MULTI-GRIP PIN BLOCK FOR MAXIMUM STRENGTH AND TUNING PIN BALANCED TORQUE

The Multi-Grip pinblock on all K Series upright pianos is fully laminated with a minimum of eleven cross-banded layers of North American hard maple for maximum strength and balanced torque. Tuning pins are made from the finest carbon steel, machine-threaded for maximum continuous torque and nickel plated to enhance beauty and provide long-term protection.

SQUARE-TUBE PEDAL LEVERS

The square-tube design of K Series pedal levers makes them stronger than the lower cost round-tube levers with flattened ends found on many other pianos. In addition, the square shape provides a flat surface for the wing nuts which helps to prevent unwanted noise and enables a more stable pedal adjustment.

EXCEPTIONALLY RIGID FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT STRING TENSION

The Kawai proprietary “matched strength” cast iron plate is supported by exceptionally strong multi-layered back posts and is installed over the soundboard and pinblock and provides the strength to anchor the strings under tension. Using state-of-the-art Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology, Kawai calibrates the strength and mass of the plate to match the scale design of each individual model. The cast-iron plate frame is bolted into the back frame posts of the piano. Plate Bolts secure the frame to the supporting posts and strengthen the connection between the plate and the back posts for greater stability. This philosophy ensures a sturdy, well-balanced back assembly that supports string tension and provides a solid foundation for outstanding tone.

KEYBED AND BRACES

The piano's keybed must be strong and stable to support the action assembly and maintain action regulation over years of heavy use. K Series keybeds are made with sturdy laminated hardwoods and reinforced by rear braces on the iron frame that help to ensure stable placement and add rigidity to prevent energy loss.
KEYS REMAIN STRAIGHT AND EVENLY DISTANCED
The piano's keyslip is the long, horizontal piece of wood that covers the front faces of the keys. Because it is long, thin and made of wood, a keyslip can warp or bend with changes in humidity, causing keys to stick. To eliminate this problem, a heavy-gauge 'steel inside liner' is added to prevent warping and bending in any direction. Keys move more freely with virtually no possibility of rubbing or sticking against the Keyslip which remains straight and evenly distanced from the key faces throughout the life of the piano.
