A Shigeru Kawai piano is significantly beyond the knowledgeable application of material, labor and design. It is a
world-class art form born not from the head, but from the heart. Thus, the Shigeru craftsman does far more than simply “build” it—he brings it to life. The precise nurturing of every part, every joint, every subtle nuance vests each piano with an unrevealed quality—a soul—that lives on from generation to generation. And those who have played a Shigeru Kawai piano know that they have not merely experienced an instrument, but have touched and heard the musical pursuit of their dreams.

Honor is sacred to every culture, and certainly to the Japanese. It is a noble covenant that binds an individual’s “words and deeds” inextricably with the value and substance of his name. There is no greater demonstration of honor, no greater commitment, than to place one’s name upon the work of one’s hands.

From initial design, to the selection of the finest materials, to the handcrafted assembly by Master Piano Artisans, each Shigeru piano is a work of uncompromising craftsmanship, a symbol of unending devotion—a profound expression of pride and honor.
For Shigeru Kawai, there could be no other way.

About the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX full concert grand piano

Unveiled in 2001 as the flagship instrument of the Shigeru Kawai line, the SK-EX concert grand piano is hand-crafted in limited numbers following a unique ‘prototyping’ creation process. In order to achieve the supreme range of expression required in a concert piano, each instrument utilizes a variety of carefully selected materials, with premium aged spruce soundboards. Shigeru Kawai instruments adopt the advanced Millennium III keyboard action, featuring extended wooden keys and advanced ABS Carbon action parts, providing superior speed and responsiveness than conventional wooden action parts, allowing pianists to express a greater range of feeling and emotion in their performance.
